It was customary for Tell Mozan to receive visits from school students, who made up the largest proportion of the site’s visitors and usually came accompanied by their teachers to learn about its history and archaeological remains. This time, however, things were different. Instead of teachers acting as lecturers accompanying their students, the teachers themselves were the learners. I welcomed a group of students from a teacher-training institute from Qamishli who were preparing to enter the teaching profession, and gave them an introductory lecture about the importance of Tell Mozan, its archaeological history, and the Hurrian civilization that flourished on this land thousands of years ago.

I felt proud as I spoke to this group of future teachers and watched them listen attentively to what I was sharing with them. I was fully aware that the knowledge I was passing on to them that day might, in the future, reach new generations of students through their teaching. Those who were listening to me today would one day become educators themselves, sharing knowledge of their region’s history and ancient civilization with their students, and helping to strengthen their awareness of the value and significance of this rich cultural heritage.
